This course offers an examination of personal and corporate expressions of worship. Students will examine biblical and theological foundations of various methods of worship used in the church. The course will provide an overview of the historical and cultural progression of worship and its influence on the church today.
This course is designed to instruct songwriting and give an overview of the subject of songwriting and how each applies in different settings. There is focus on the relationship of words to music, storytelling, song structure, and song demo production. This course allows students to understand how to listen critically to songs as well as learn, analyze, and apply the foundational and structural elements of songwriting through this collaborative, growth-oriented experience.
This course addresses the practical principles of creative leadership including: issues of integrity and character, time management, relationship building, administrative responsibilities for musicians and creatives, discipleship training, building teams, and maintaining balance with family within the missional framework of the local church.
This practical music theory course prepares students to lead a live band as a worship pastor to get the best out of musicians. Students will learn how to create live and tracked arrangements, utilize various instruments, explore how to direct and lead differently in small and large venues, and how to communicate with the sound team.
Dave Hummel, Creative Director and Composer/Producer, has been on team at Wave Church since 2007. He has over 30 years experience in the music production world, writing music for television and video games, as well as working as a writer/producer for Sony/ATV in Los Angeles, and audio engineering for major labels. At Wave Church, Professor Hummel oversees Live Production, Video Production, and Marketing as well as the Worship and Creative Arts Department. At Wave Leadership College, he oversees the Media & Arts electives.
